8 Things to do on the South Coast of Barbados

On the most active coast of Barbados, there are a ton of activities to get yourself and family lost in. Here we outline the best of the best, in our opinion, that you should check out too!

1. Historic Bridgetown and Its Garrison Tour

In June 2011, Bridgetown and the Garrison were recorded as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Explore these historical sites with the knowledgeable tour guides and learn a little about the astounding past and present of our country’s Capital and the surrounding areas.

2. Copacabana Beach day

If you’re looking for the perfect beach day, look to the chill Copacabana Beach Club. Layout and sunbathe on a nice lounger or seek shade under the large branded umbrellas. Take a dip in the cool, crystal clear water or grab a bite and a beer at the bar. Copacabana offers everything to make your family day at the beach the most enjoyable one.

 3. Swim with the Turtles

Swimming with the turtles is a staple when visiting the island. With the leatherback, green and hawksbill turtles calling our waters home, and the plethora of fish, reefs and shipwrecks, there’s a ton to explore in the crystal clear Caribbean Sea. Choose one of the many day cruises offered, most of which include a snorkel stop, or join a snorkelling group to tick this experience off your bucket list.

4. Play a Round of Golf

Enjoy a round or two at the Barbados Golf Club. This 18-hole course was approved and sanctioned by the PGA European Tour in 2003 and is great for professionals and amateurs alike. If you’re only now learning, coaching is available.

5. Oistins

Visiting Oistins on a Friday or Saturday night is really the best way to experience Bajan culture. While the freshly caught and prepared fish is always the main attraction, Fridays and Saturdays at the Bay Garden offer a large dj-ed dance party and karaoke respectively and is always fun for all ages. After gorging on the delicious food and enjoying the music, take a stroll by the craft vendors and grab some souvenirs for friends back home!

6. St. Lawrence Gap

This small stretch of road in Christ Church is known as the heart of nightlife in Barbados. Whether you’re looking to have dinner at a nice restaurant, to party all night, hit up one of the bumping bars or grab a famous gap burger, you’re sure to find something fun to do in the Gap.

7. Visit a nice Restaurant

The South Coast is home to a plethora of restaurants you may want to try. From the upscale to the moderately priced, every taste is catered to. We suggest for the more moderately priced, Bubba’s Sports Bar or the ArtSplash Centre Cafe, both great for families and varying degrees of casual and for the cheaper options, our very own Chefette, the fast food restaurant. If you’re looking for more health-conscious food, most restaurants offer a vegetarian or vegan option but you can look to Raw Juice Barbados or The Good Life Restaurant.

8. Get into cool watersports
